Raise your hand if you currently have a pile of laundry waiting to be folded…
(MY HAND IS RAISED HIGH!) Just me. No. Can’t be.
Honestly… I’ve got two laundry piles on the couch and another in the dryer that will soon join its friends.
I wash. I dry. I dump.
It’s a rhythm I know too well.
Then I walk away to do something quick before folding… and suddenly, I’m solving a sibling crisis, starting dinner, cleaning a mystery spill, answering a text, or refereeing a debate over who left crumbs all over the kitchen counter.
By bedtime? I’m just too tired.
Folding laundry takes time, and time is precious.
It also takes energy, and I’m fresh out.
But what really sends me spinning?
Once I do find the time to fold the mound of laundry, I later find those same clothes crumpled on the floor or bunched up in a drawer that looks more like a laundry bomb went off inside it.
Does anyone know this frustration… oh you too?
It’s fine. I’m fine. You’re fine.
(Okay, I’m not.)
Confession…
Sometimes I avoid folding because it feels pointless.
But sometimes… it’s a reminder of other areas I tend to avoid.
Places where I know obedience is needed, but I’d rather not deal with it.
That small nudge to follow through.
The conviction I’d rather ignore.
The moment that feels unseen, so I treat it like it doesn’t matter.
But it does.
Because everything we do—yes, even folding—can be an act of daily worship.
Scripture says:
“Whatever you do, do it from the heart, as something done for the Lord and not for people.”– Colossians 3:23, CSB
Now, I know this verse wasn’t written with laundry in mind.
Paul was talking about living for Jesus in every part of life—not just chores.
But the truth still fits.
Whatever we’re doing, we can do it for His glory.
Even laundry. Yep, even good ole laundry.
So maybe obedience starts small.
Maybe it looks like choosing to show up.
To honor God in the things no one else sees.
To fold the clothes anyway—as a quiet rhythm of daily worship.
It’s not about being perfect.
It’s about being present.
Rooted in Him, even when I’d rather do anything else.
Now, excuse me while I finally go tackle that pile.
(Or at least move it to the other side of the couch.)
