We were driving when my son pointed to a car and said,
“Wow. That thing is chopped.”
Naturally, I panicked.
Was it me? My jeans? My favorite iced coffee order?
I quickly scanned the car in front of us—nothing looked particularly “chopped” to me.
Was it dented? Rusty? Missing a door?
Finally, I had to ask, “What does that even mean?”
That’s when I learned a new bit of teen slang: “Chopped,” he explained, “means it’s ugly… not your best look.”
Awesome. (Which, apparently, no one says anymore either.)
So basically, “chopped” is my car on a rainy Monday—and maybe me on a Tuesday afternoon.
Let’s be honest—
My car still runs. It may rattle, squeak, and desperately need a vacuum, but it gets me where I need to go. My favorite mug still holds coffee. It’s scratched, dented, and has seen better days—but it does the job.
And me?
I’m still showing up.
Maybe a little worn out. Maybe in need of grace for tired hearts.
But here. Doing the thing.
For all the women out there who can relate—
You might feel “chopped,” but you’re not counted out.
God still uses people with messy cars, scratched mugs, and tired hearts.

There’s grace here. And probably coffee too.
